Louise Brooks
Louise Brooks is known as one of the most iconic flappers of the 1920s. She acted in many movies, most notably the 1929 silent film Pandora’s Box. Her short bobbed hairstyle is easily recognizable and many women at the time copied the style. In the 1920’s fashion began to change and as hemlines rose, waistlines dropped. This decade was in response to the women’s rights and suffrage movement of the earlier years, as women began driving, smoking, and wearing “scandalous” clothes.
Louise embodied all of these new styles, becoming the ideal woman of the time. She wore sleek 1920s gowns, long fur coats, and the commonly seen cloche hat. Her dark lipstick and eye makeup is the style that became popular among flappers and actresses in the 1920’s. You would think that Louise’s style would look outdated and antique, but she manages to make it look modern and timeless.
